Fall has already started, and that means only one thing: fantasy football season.
In 2009, current and former students at Baruch College Campus High School have created a fantasy football league. Seniors Alexander Jacobs, Samir Mekrami, Nasser Monayir, Lucas Vaz and graduates Kevin Casidsid, Neil Heck, Farhan Husain and Paul Morgenstern and I have bonded together in this intense competition to see who knows the most about football.
On September 1st, the season officially began with the draft in the BCCHS league. A team's success can vary depending on how one selects his players before the start of the season.
Fantasy Football is a game in which the player picks which football players to include in his best game each week. The great thing about fantasy football is that anyone, even a child who knows nothing about football, can play and dominate a league.
One should put aside his prejudices for the teams he dislikes. For example, I used my first round-draft pick on Tom Brady because he’s going to score touchdowns every week. To be honest, he is having a subpar year for me. It is also weird to cheer for Brady because I don't like New England teams. But those are not valid reasons for not choosing Brady.
Nobody likes losing. After my first loss, I cannot recount how many times the other players mentioned to me my defeat. It’s one of the worst feelings I have felt. Victories translate to peaceful nights for the rest of the week, whereas losses equate to disappointment and perhaps even a loss of appetite. But one will long for a win in the next week. That’s the beauty of fantasy football.
