One hundred hamburgers, 40 hotdogs, a refrigerator full of water bottles, countless cans of pop… sounds like a band party!

The band parties occur after every football game and are a fun way for the band to wind down after an exciting performance. Usually, band members will go to someone’s house and enjoy a late dinner, play games and socialize. Each party is hosted at the house of a band member and organized by parent volunteers. “The band parties are a positive thing because they give you a chance to get to know your peers really well,” sophomore Evan McGorray said. McGorray attends most band parties and looks forward to each.

Each band party has something special to offer, whether it’s a pool or a great collection of video games everyone has their favorite.

`

“[My favorite band party] this season was at the Stark’s. Being able to go swimming was pretty cool, and they also had tons of great food,” junior Leah Nolan said.

Several band members host parties each year at their home. Because of this, many band members have specific parties that they look forward to each year.

“The Tjotjos’s party every year is really fun because they have an amazing house,” junior Marisa Hanson said. According to Hanson, the Tjotjos’s house is large and on the Rocky River.

“One of the reasons I go to that party is just to look at their house,” Hanson said.

One of the most popular parties is the one held at the Rocky River Presbyterian Church, hosted by Reverend John Fancher and his wife, Mary. Their son, Brian, is this year’s band president. This is one party where fitting all 144 band members into one confined space isn’t a problem.

Many parties are hosted by families with small houses who cannot fit a whole lot of people. Usually this is not a problem as most Rocky River residents have yards but, when it rains, drastic actions must be taken. Occasionally, the party will be moved inside, creating a crowded atmosphere, which most band members don’t mind, but usually students will stay outside in a light rain. The band parties are always a fun way to end a busy week.
