On Saturday, November 10th, the Warhawks beat Verona 24-7 and are now heading to the State championship game.

The game didn’t start out great for Arrowhead when Verona scored on a one-yard touchdown run to take an early 7-0 lead. Jake Ferris responded by running for a 59-yard touchdown getting Arrowhead back in the game. A botched snap led to a missed extra point. It was 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The offense looked good for Arrowhead to start the second quarter. Ferris took it to the house once again for from one-yard out. Arrowhead went for a two point conversion to try and take a one touchdown lead. A Dan Kieffer pass was completed to Jake Hackbart to put Arrowhead in the lead 14-7. Ferris finished his 148-yard day on the ground by scoring his third touchdown run from nine-yards out. A great interception by Connor Lenz set up one of the touchdowns for Arrowhead. Arrowhead ended the half with an 18-yard field goal by Budzien with one second before halftime. Arrowhead led 24-7 at halftime.

That’s how the score would end as both teams were kept out of the end zone in the second half. Arrowhead never let Verona get inside their 25-yard line.

Arrowhead’s great season continues. They will play Homestead for a rematch at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison on Friday, November 16th.

On Saturday, November 3rd, Arrowhead kept their season alive, beating Marquette in double overtime 44-41.

Arrowhead couldn’t execute anything on offense in the first quarter and gave up a 1-yard touchdown run to Marquette.

In the second quarter Arrowhead’s Brian Crook got to the end zone on a long 50-yard touchdown run. Marquette responded quickly by running the ball down the field and scoring on a 13-yard run. Jeff Budzien kicked a 35-yard field goal for the Warhawks, cutting the deficit to only four points at the half.

The third quarter began with Marquette running the ball right down the field. Marquette got another 13-yard touchdown run making it their third rushing touchdown of the game. The Warhawks knew they had to get on the scoreboard quickly. Dan Kieffer hooked up with Calvin Ramsey on a 76-yard touchdown pass to end the third quarter with Marquette on top 21-17.

Arrowhead got on the board quickly in the fourth quarter with a Jake Ferris 2-yard dash to the end zone. Marquette answered on a 12-yard pass to take them back in the lead. A 33-yard touchdown grab by Ramsey gave the Warhawks the lead late in the quarter which should have wrapped the game up. Marquette wasn’t finished though. They tied the game with a 42-yard field goal to send the game into overtime.

Both teams scored in the first overtime. An 8-yard pass from Kieffer to Chris Roets and a 5-yard run for Marquette.

When Marquette got a 22-yard field goal to start the second overtime, Kieffer and the offense had to score. Kieffer scored on a 5-yard run carrying two defenders on his back.

Arrowhead will play Verona in a semifinal game next week.
