Singer Goran Kralj recently took the stage of the UWM Union Theatre to promote his solo debut, “Any Day Now.” Commenting on his release, Kralj said, "It sounds great. I think any true fans of The Gufs are going to appreciate it. I'm excited to get it out and see what people think--whether it's good or bad." College students and young adults agreed, gathering in masses to hear Goran’s gentle voice in person.

“I’m glad we still get a taste of The Gufs in Goran’s new music,” noted senior Maggie VerBrugge. “It’s so powerful; it always makes me feel good.”

"I think [my music] is a little bit more mellow,” said Kralj in a recent interview.

Diehards of the Milwaukee-based band The Gufs recognize Kralj as the band’s lead singer. However, conflicting areas of residency forced the band to dismember. But Gufs supporters no longer have to mourn such a great loss. Kralj now desires to depart from his “Smile” fame and define his own style.

“I think the songs that I write were always meant to be for a band. I don't think I come across as a Pete Yorn or a John Mayer type," said Kralj. "When I wrote this album, these songs were intended to be Gufs songs, but it didn't work out. Everybody was in a different place. I just decided to find some other people to play and to see what [would] happen. It's definitely different stylistically than the stuff The Gufs would play."

Currently living in Chicago, Kralj still holds fast to his Milwaukee roots. His UWM appearance foreshadows many more area performances to come.
