After winning the conference championship, regionals, and then sectionals, the Arrowhead Girls Golf Varsity team headed to the WIAA Division 1 girls state golf tournament. The girls ended up taking fifth place with 680 strokes.

The state meet was held Monday October 11th and Tuesday October 12th. The girls played 18 holes both days at University Ridge in Verona, Wisconsin, which is where the University of Wisconsin golf teams play.

Senior Natalie Feder was listed on the Journal Sentinel list of golfers to watch for leading the Warhawks with first place in their Classic 8 Conference championship, the Hartford Regional, and the Neenah Sectional.

The girls placed fourth after Monday’s round with a stroke total of 336. Sophomore Lauren Lauterbach led the team with 80. Junior Peyton Gunnison followed with an 83, senior Natalie Feder with 86, freshman Lauren Reeg with 87, and senior Bethany Gustin with 90.

“We didn’t play to our standards. Once we started struggling, it was difficult to come back” said Reeg.

On Tuesday, the teams total came to 344 strokes. Junior Peyton Gunnison had an 80, sophomore Lauren Lauterbach with 84, senior Natalie Feder with 88, senior Bethany Gustin with 94, and junior Jamie Kujwaski with 102.

“I think everyone wanted to play better than they did, but we are still proud of what we have accomplished. It’s just sad that the season is over now” said Lauterbach.

This was the team’s eighth time competing in the state championship. The past four years, they have come home with fifth place as well.

Teams that competed against Arrowhead for the state title were Brookfield Central, DSHA, Homestead, Kettle Moraine, Marinette, Middleton, Milton, New Richmond, Onalaska, Sheboygan North/South and Waunakee.

Waunakee won the state team championship with 662 strokes. Senior Ashton Stair from Milton won the state individual championship with 136 strokes.

Senior Natalie Feder was listed on the Journal Sentinel list of golfers to watch for leading the Warhawks with first place in their Classic 8 Conference championship, the Hartford Regional, and the Neenah Sectional.
