Central Regional is a school that offers many different clubs and activities. There’s something for everyone and on the off chance that there isn’t, students are given the opportunity to create a club molded to their specific needs.

Up until this year The Gay-Straight Alliance wasn’t its own club; it was a branch of the Bullying Committee. This year it is a club that partners with the Bullying committee in an effort to eradicate the stigma and harassment associated with sexual orientation. In an effort to create a group where students can be themselves, share their own stories of personal experiences relating to bullying, and to form an alliance between members of different sexual orientations, the GSA was created.

Therefore, The GSA is not just for homosexuals; it is for anyone who wants to help make a difference and create a safe-haven for students here.



The president of the Gay-Straight Alliance, David Moran, doesn’t want the word “gay” to scare you, “Most people hear gay and think it's just a club for homosexuals, while on the contrary, the keyword in our name is ‘Alliance‘. We are a group of students who come together to try and establish a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, including the gay community.”

This is a group that puts every effort into making their members feel comfortable with themselves. The GSA is an alliance, so don’t hesitate to join if eliminating the stigma associated with the gay community is as important to you as it is to them. As Dave Moran clearly states, “It's open to anyone who wants to contribute to our vision of a safe and friendly school.”

If you are a student or teacher at Central Regional and would like to make a difference in how your peers view the gay community, The GSA meets every Monday in the presentation room after school.
