Well it’s 11:49 on Sunday a night after a full day of work, and I just now decided to pull out my homework. I know, it’s a bad time to be doing it, but then the worse kicks in. I’m starting to get lazy and thinking of alternatives, maybe I can just do it before class or in another hour. Or maybe my teacher will let me turn it late. So I put it down and just go to bed.
Morning comes around and I’m already running behind, and I run into school trying to make it on time. Second thoughts start to run through my mind. I really should’ve done my homework last night; this really isn’t going to help my grade. I know my problem isn’t exactly a full schedule and I’m aware that other people have much busier schedules than I do, yet I’m pushing time to do my homework. How do they do it? Or do they?
Am I the only one who feels like free time and even just plain homework time is scarce? We all know the burden of homework and with no acceptance of late work the pressure is a lot higher. Time is hard to find when your life full of activities and homework probably isn’t one of the main priorities.
The solution? Well if used correctly I think a study hall would be the perfect solution. When we go to redo, catch up, get ahead, or just do your homework, you can get home from the game worry free, or not as worried you have a ton of homework to do. If students were able to sign up for next year classes and study hall was an option, giving either 1st hour or 7th hour student’s grades would improve.
Of course, students would have to follow rules and guidelines or suffer the consequences such as being booted from the study hall. If study hall was an option students could get their homework done or work ahead. So maybe next time homework is due you can easily be relaxed and say you have it done. Encourage the members of the School Improvement Team, which is: Mr. Vogel, Ms. Roble, Mr. Poet, Mr. Jim Jones, Mrs. Sexson, Mr. Arntt, and Ms. Struckhoff to discuss the possibility of adding study hall to the schedule next year.
