Prepared with pens and pencils, members of the creative writing class go to their classroom ready to work, but what exactly is the creative writing class all about?
“Creative Writing class is about learning the art of painting pictures and making motion pictures with words,” said creative writing instructor Mrs. Post. “The class starts out with the basic tools of the trade- words and imagination- and works to build student writers who are able to tell the stories of human experience.”
The overall view of this class sounds very interesting. But how is the creative writing class different from any regular English class that students take?
“Most students replied that they felt more freedom to experiment and express their own thoughts because everyone was supportive and nonjudgmental,” explained Mrs. Post.
The class has a strong bond between one another to be able to express their emotions and feelings without being embarrassed.
“The creative writing class has so far done writing journal projects,” stated junior Jose Rodriguez, “Each week we get a set of assignments that are due at the end of the week. At the beginning of the class we did some cool anagrams, we made a time capsule, and (wrote) dialogues between two very different people,” Jose says to sum it up.
The creative writing class usually comes around every other year, but Mrs. Post would like for students to be able to take the class every year. She believes the class would benefit all the students who were involved.
“Students participate in activities such as a walk in the park, making TV and newspaper ads, bringing in sleeping bags and pillows for writing time, and working with small children to develop poetry and children’s stories,” Says Mrs. Post.
Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to sit down and write while relaxing on a sleeping bag and a pillow? I know I would enjoy this.
No matter who you are, if you have the passion to write, this class is for you.
“Students do not have to have a strong grade point to take the class; instead they will do well if they are willing to have fun, be creative and expressive in writing, and be willing to work on projects to their completion.”
This class should be taken into deep consideration for any student that is passionate about their writing and has a strong work ethic. For samples of student work, see the Broadcaster on the Internet.
