The school year has come to a close. We have about a week left of school. You can tell when it comes this time. The teachers get tired of the students and the students are tired of learning, listening, and working.
We decided to ask some students who will be seniors next year, what they would like to see next year and some of the things that they would like to change.
Several students said what they want next year is to have no dress code. Students do not want to have to be able to wear certain things. They want to wear what they want to in order to express who they are. Some students said that if the dress code stayed the same, then they wanted to have more opportunities for a dress down day. Some said every Friday would be a great idea.
As a result of the survey, we learned that some students don’t want to change anything, except for the way that some teachers teach. Students say that many teachers don’t care how they teach, what they do, and if anyone is learning. Many students said that teachers don’t need to worry about the ones who don’t want to learn and to focus more on the ones that do.
The upcoming seniors said that they wanted to be able to leave during lunch (with permission from their parents). The students that don’t have the permission can’t go.
A lot of the students said that they would like to have awards for the students that do what they are told and what they are supposed to do. They said that they feel like the administration focuses more on the students who cause the trouble than the good students. Maybe we could let the students that do what they are told get to wear jeans every Friday with a collared shirt or Hixson t-shirt.
Another thing that was said many times was that the students didn’t want to have Advisory anymore. They said that it was a waste of time, because most teachers don’t do anything with their students. We could put that time that is spent in Advisory to longer lunch periods and a longer time between classes (other than 5 minutes.)
Those are just some of the things that the students said that they would like to change, and hopefully some of these things will change for our seniors next year.
