As a teenager you experience a lot of difficult things. Perhaps somebody doesn’t like you because you wear certain things. Maybe people do not like you because you don’t act like them. Maybe it’s because you’re just not interested in dating. Usually teens are bombarded with dating and the opposite sex. I, for one, am not interested in dating because of my school work, and the fact that dating is sometimes full of drama, especially in high school. But what if someone is teasing you or says you’re gay or a lesbian because you haven’t experienced dating. Well, teenagers are all different and some teens find it easier just to wait for dating. I mean, what’s the rush? You have time. I think it’s great to wait for dating, unless you are doing well in your school work and your priorities are straight, then I don’t see a problem with it.

Just because you choose not to date doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you. I think waiting makes you and your first date closer and makes it more personal, so you don’t have negative thoughts about it. I think showing that you don’t need anybody makes you independent and gives you self-confidence you don’t have to date as a teen to enjoy life. And if someone is calling you names because you’re not interested, then who cares? Shrug it off and move on. You know it’s not true, and that’s all that matters.

You have to be prepared to stand your ground in this type of situation. When teenagers see that you’re not bothered by their remarks, then they might partake in it also. Some teens doubt themselves a lot after being told this and called this, but just because everyone else is dating doesn’t mean you have to. You wouldn’t jump off the bridge just because everyone else is doing it. You might even realize that you’re attracting more and more potential daters because they see this confidence and they want what they can’t have. Choosing not to date doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you, it means that you have goals in life and choosing not to date might be one of them. You could even meet new friends that share that common interest. Being a teenager should be a fun experience, so enjoy your teenage free time while it lasts!
