As winter is coming to an end, thoughts of warm weather, sunshine and Prom are on the mind.
Prom, which is sponsored by the junior class, is still just under two months away, yet preparations have already begun. This year’s theme is “A Night in the City.” This is a New York City centered idea. The date has been set for April 21, and it will be held in the Holliday Gym.
“We’re really focusing on having extravagant decorations and putting all of our effort into this,” junior class president Morgan Abbott said.
The student advisors working on the prom committee, along with Abbott are: Cole Jordan, Taylor Delbridge, Morgan Huggins and Matt Stevens. Faculty advisors are Aja Moody, Graham Pereirra, and R.L. Andrews.
“I went to prom last year, but as an underclassman I didn’t really get to experience everything about prom. This year I’m looking forward to helping out with decorations and being involved,” junior Cameron Smith said.
Different from previous years, the Junior class is offering a community service opportunity to help raise money for prom. Through the Children for Children fund, the junior class is raising money by selling prom t-shirts. All of the proceeds earned from t-shirts sold, will be used to host a prom for an underprivileged school in New York.
“Businesses around the area are really helping out by donating money for us to make the shirts,” Abbott said.
“This will be my first time attending prom and I’m excited to see how everything will turn out,” junior Jessica Langdon said.
