Through the ages our opponents change, our spirit days are different, and students come and go, but the fun that comes from homecoming week remains the same.
October 5, is the kick off date for Spirit Week and Homecoming events. As is tradition each day of week will be exclusive to a certain type of attire. This year’s theme is Broughton through the ages.
“I think the theme is great because it provides and lot of different ways for the students to express themselves” senior Sydney Briley said.
Monday is Camouflage Day, where students cover themselves in camo.
“Get creative, everyone wears your typical army fatigue, make your own camouflage outfit out of things in your own back yard” senior, Ja’mei Bess said.
The following day is Costume Day, students are allowed to be their favorite characters, movie stars, animals, or anything else you can think of. Wednesday is Senior Citizen Day, a day where students will go from being from high school students to grandmas and grandpas. Thursday, Spirit Day, offers each class level it own day to show the school their own spin on their class theme. Freshmen are prehistoric, sophomores are Motown, Juniors are 80‘s, and seniors are Pirates. And to wrap up the week is, Purple and Gold day, everyone is to show school pride, wearing on the purple and gold they can find.
“Although Spirit Week is awesome, my favorite part of homecoming is the pep rally, it‘s always fun to see people getting pumped for the game, and the entertainment is always so good” sophomore McRae Whitely said.
This year’s pep-rally will be jam packed with performances from the Cheerleading Team, Dance Team, Dance Company, Shyne, and the Step Team as well as showing class skits and announcing the homecoming king.
“The pep-rally will be sure to motivate the football team to win!” senior Collier Roberts said.
This year’s homecoming game will be against Wake Forest-Rolesville.
“They’re a really good team but if we all work together, I’m sure we can beat them, regardless it’s going to be a great game and everyone should come support.” senior, Desmond Daniels said.
Following the prep rally is the homecoming parade. Each year local residents, students, teachers, and parents all come to Cameron Village to witness the floats that have been created by organizations at the school and by each individual class.
“Not only is it a time for students to show off their hard work over the past month but it also brings the community together” senior, Garrett Butler said.
And to wrap up the Homecoming Week, there will be the homecoming dance, on October 10, from 9-12.
“Be there or miss out on good fun!” senior, Destinee Smith said.
