President Obama addresses the crowd in the Holliday Gym regarding his health care plan

Excitement and energy could be felt on Wednesday, July 29, throughout the Holliday Gym, which was filled with parents, students and faculty members waiting for President Barack Obama to present his speech.

"Obama practically came bouncing out of the limo, eager to meet people and speak to everyone," Principal Stephen Mares said.

President Obama had conversations with people such as the governor, superintendent and the school faculty while waiting to step onstage for his speech.

"He [Obama] has an unbelievable charisma and energy, and he is very personable," Mares said.

To prepare for President Obama’s speech, parents, teachers and CAPS club members brought flowers and helped clean the gym with the White House team and the Secret Service.

"It was really their [the White House team’s and the Secret Service’s] event," Mares said.

Before President Obama entered the Holliday Gym, the Jazz Band played. Junior Chelsea Cole sang the Star-Spangled Banner and junior Tom Gill said the Pledge of Allegiance.

Senior Kevin Rothenberg welcomed the president on behalf of Broughton before Obama stepped onto the stage. During Obama’s speech he addressed how it was important for all Americans to be covered by health insurance.

President Obama presented a self-proclaimed bi-partisan plan. He called for the use of 500 billion federal dollars.

However, according to the President, a majority of that money would be covered by a more efficient usage of federal money already appropriated to health care programs annually.

Before leaving, President Obama answered several questions.
