I recently talked to Coach Tommy Egan about the
basketball season so far in Mountain Grove. He was honest and
truthful in the responses, making for some good journalism. The
questions are as follows:
What is the
varsity record thus far?
“ 3 wins and
6 losses, with wins over Ash Grove 77-48, Catholic 60-54, and
Hartville 66-41.”
What was your
favorite game and why?
“Our first
game against Catholic. We were losing the entire game and came back
to tie it to send it to overtime. We then beat them in the overtime
to win the consolation trophy at the Strafford Tournament.”
How has this
year been an improvement from last?
“This year
has been an improvement from last year because we have a lot more
balance. Any number of players on the team are capable of scoring in
double figures. We are also a lot better defensively. We believe we
have just a good a chance as anybody else to win conference and
district.”
What loss hurt
the most and why?
“The
Gainesville game. They were 6-0 at the time. We played well the
entire game and had a 10 point lead with 3:17 to go in the game. They
came back to tie it and we ended up losing in overtime.”
In the end,
the Panthers were only a matter of seconds from winning half their
games, but in a streak of bad luck, fell short. A talented team
still takes the court, so go out and support your Panther basketball
teams!
