High hopes and big wins were expected from this year boy’s varsity baseball team. However, many of the top players were dismissed from the team due to academic reasons, which pretty much set the tone for a disappointing season.

With only 13 players left on the roster, with less than half that number having any varsity experience, Coach Singleton’s objective for this season was to get his players better in the field, and also have love and respect for the game.

Throughout the season Chelsea was on a terrible losing streak starting off the season 0-10. “It’s not all about winning,” said coach Singleton. “I don’t even care if we lose all our games as long we focus and play the game the right way.”

Playing the game the right way led Chelsea to its only victory against Greater Lawrence in a close 5-4 contest.

With just one win, players still managed to keep their heads up high all season long. Winning isn’t everything, but learning something new and staying focused is the most important lesson. That’s exactly what the 2009 baseball team was all about.
