Troy Crossely turns the corner in the Devil's only loss to Whittier.

Friday September 11 was the start of the 2009 football season for The Chelsea High Red Devils. As they entered their first game of the season these Devils were amped.

During the day there were rumors swirling around the team a Pope John t-shirt was found in the locker room with the words “Chelsea Sucks 48–12” written on it predicting a loss for the Devils. Later on the day those rumors were declared true. After this act of disrespect to the team, school, and city, the Devils enter the game looking for redemption.

Retribution is what they sought and retribution is what they earned. As the rain poured onto the field the tension between these 2 teams just grew higher and higher with nonstop pounding from whistle to whistle.

But the Devils pounded harder and drove their way in for five rushing touchdowns. Daniel Martinez and Justin Saez each had two, and David Cortez had one. The Devils did have some mental breakdowns as they allowed a 68-yard kick-return touchdown. But other than that, the mighty Devil defense shut down the Pope John Tigers offense throughout the game.

With great blocking from the offensive line, great running back skills and a shutdown defense, the Devils won 42–6.

The game also made history – Priscilla Gonzalez and Banessa Alfaro are the only two girls ever to play in a Chelsea High Varsity football game.

The team is now 6–1 and hopes to wrap-up the season with three more victories. The team faces North Shore Tech in a battle of first place teams Saturday at 2:30 PM at North Shore Tech off Route 114 in Middleton.
