Regardless of the chaos in the girls’ locker room thanks to mismatched outfits and models, Alisal’s first Winter Wear Fashion show on December 3, 2010 turned out to be a complete success. Models walked down the aisle of sparkling glitter and struck a pose for the audience. “I thought I was going to fall from the slippery glitter, and trip on my 5 inch heels,” said senior Gracy Fernandez, saving her breath after modeling out a short floral dress. Despite of the models being nervous and tense, every model strutted down the catwalk with confidence and killer smiles.
Andres Ortiz, one of the creators of the Fashion Club, announced his welcomes to the full audience and the show began. Pumping music started as junior Yesenia Cardenas modeled winter wear for school. She wore a short floral dress with a trendy cardigan, along with tights and boots. Her hair was bouncing like a professional model under her fancy black hat. Other models wore colored coats, scarves, and many different layers of stylish clothing.
The show also had male participants such as Freddy Ambriz, Ricky Ruelas, Peter Aguilar, and Ortiz himself. Most enjoyed themselves. “The experience was fun and chill, I had a great time” said Ambriz. He showed off his own style by wearing black Levi pants, casual Jordan shoes, and Alisal’s Renaissance sweatshirt along with a cute bow tie.
The show was a get together to promote and show what students can wear during winter. “We want to show the creativity of clothing wear in which the Fashion Club gives people ideas for winter season without people relying on hoodies and sweats to stay warm,” said Ortiz. Not only was the Fashion Show based on suggestions of what people can wear at school, but also how people can present apparel at parties and Winterball. Models showed off simple classy tights with basic blouses, shiny jewelry, and different types of high heels. Michelle Valdes modeled out a hot pink strapless dress with black tights underneath, and delivered a nice walk with her funky black boots.
Most dresses were classic in which models wore short or long gowns. Jocelyn Valdvia came onto the aisle with a puffy peach short colored dress with black high heels. She also wore a vintage charm necklace that went along her modeled outfit. As short dresses were presented for winter ball, Jennifer Camacho ended a closing act by modeling a long simple dark blue dress. Camacho wore a silver headband with shiny jewels which matched her little handbag. “It felt great being a model. I was actually kind of scared that I was going to step on my dress and fall because it was long, but I love that dress!” Camacho said.
For the most part, the Fashion Show was a success. The audience cheered, and many flashes of camera shots lit the room. “I think the fashion show was awesome, and it was very creative. The show was great opportunity for students to see different kinds of trends for winter,” Lalo Zepeda said; a fan of the Fashion Show. All in all the Winter Wear Fashion Show was accomplished, and the evening went terrific. Ortiz was relieved after the show because it turned out great. “I feel happy because all of the hard work paid off,” he said.
Ms. Mason; the faculty advisor enjoyed the show and was happy that the fashion show came out great. “It rocked and the fashion show was wonderful!” The Winter Wear Fashion show was a free admission and Ms. Mason prepared free snacks for the audience. The clothing that the models wore may be purchased at many stores such as Forever 21, Target, Macys, and Wet Seal. Simple clothing like tights, scarves, casual pants, and boots can be found at any clothing store.
This year’s Winter Wear Fashion show was the first, but hopefully not the last. To all the non-seniors out there, may you become as actively involved in extra curricular activities as this club is. This fashion show is just another aspect of Alisal that improves the school, these students took a passion of theirs and turned it into a club to help build upon our creativity. Hopefully their efforts inspire others to do the same.
