The prominent story of man vs. machines is told through a different perspective in Tim Burton’s “9”. The film is as action-packed as an animated movie can get as Burton returns to his uniquely dark style that is almost impossible to go unrecognized.
When the world is crumbling down, an old scientist distributes parts of his soul between nine of his inventions, left to carry on life after the humans. However the battle has not ended, one through nine must defend themselves from the eerie creatures that remain. The irony of it is that nine miniature doll-like figures destroy what man could never take down in just a few hours.
Though there is no actual time frame, the film is fast paced and gives off the sense that all the events happen in less than a day. It is hard to walk out of the theater without a favorite character. The relatable, heart warming aspects of being innocent, afraid, brave, curious, and unsure of one’s capability draws the viewer into the movie and the characters.
Burton’s films are nearly their own genre that “9” definitely fits under. This suspenseful, thrilling movie is laced with comedy and action that will leave viewers wanting more.
