The Presidential Election of 2008 has become an extremely controversial one. From the first Italian American, to the first African American, and even the first woman to run for president, this year’s election has been full of surprises. One that still seems to shock some is that of Sarah Palin. A Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has showed that although she is new in the Presidential side of politics, she has done her fair share in important local aspects of politics in her home state. Being a member of the Wasilla city council from 1992-1996 and then becoming Mayor of Wasilla from 1996-2002, Palin showed to be well liked, winning by 413 votes to 185. Just why she got into politics you may ask: to help her fellow citizens. She believed revenue from a sales tax would not be spent wisely and she decided to help her town and make sure it was put to good. In 2006 running on a clean government platform, Palin gained her seat as Governor of Alaska where she put her hard work and dedication into action while still maintaining a popularity of 89%.
Sarah Palin is a hardworking everyday woman. Who would not want that for their president? Some… may choose to describe her as ignorant. I beg to differ. Palin is the farthest thing from ignorant. Completing college with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism Communications is a great study. One of the most important aspects of politics is communication. Instilling strong Christian values in her family? Not a problem at all; separation of church and state calls for no such criticism. In addition, everyone makes mistakes and teenagers are known to rebel. The fact that Palin’s daughter became pregnant has nothing against the character of Palin herself. Also, calling a single state in the union irrelevant is a blatant act of nationalism and sectionalism. Where’s the patriotism in that and when are you qualified to analyze a states importance?
Sarah Palin’s experience, hard work, and dedication to her fellow citizens truly prove to make her a substantially qualified candidate.
Maybe you think that this is “not gonna fly” with the rest of the nation?
Well, I believe next time you criticize a person, use concrete facts because otherwise, it certainly won’t “fly” with me.
