Many students received scholarships throughout the evening April 16 at Warren County High School. Parents, students, family and friends filed into the auditorium as Principal James Bennett opened the scholarship ceremony.
Twelve students received 13 different scholarships from Tennessee Technological University. Of all the counties in Tennessee, WCHS supplies the most students to Tennessee Tech with more than 100 previous Warren County Students enrolled. Ridge Nunley, Faith Gallagher and Ally Smith were presented with scholarships from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga by Twanelle Majors.
Paul Lawson Prater received the Presidential scholarship from Lipscomb. Brooke Bowman, Kathryn McKinley, Robby Brown and Lindsey Adcock received Provost scholarships. Seth Smith walked away with a $10,000 check to the Art Institute of Tennessee, Nashville and Mrs. Linda Fuson awarded Jesse Paz with a $26,000 scholarship to Wheaton in Chicago. Another big winner, Che Wiley, received the Deanna Grayson Memorial Dance Scholarship.
A scholarship that hits close to home for most seniors was the Spencer Lively Memorial Scholarship. Robby Brown received the scholarship from Ms. Bennett. Kaitom Tanner and Jahir Hernandez each received the Ben Banerjee Scholarship for their participation in the Warren County High School soccer program.
It was a shock to a few seniors going to Middle Tennessee State University that the Gentry Moffitt Scholarship was not awarded this year. Guidance Keri McGiboney said, “There wasn’t enough money this year to award more.”
“The previous students who have received it barely get to keep it. It is a fully paid, four year tuition to MTSU with a $500 a semester book allowance, and that adds up,” said scholarship coordinator Charlotte Vaughn.
Kacy Wilson received the AAUW Scholarship for $300 to the college of her choice. She is choosing to go to Motlow. Wilson said, “I am very thankful for the extra money for school. It will help out a lot.”
Additionally, numerous students received awards during the program.
