This is the best way I could start this article: The hallways suck. While I know that’s not eloquently written, that’s the best way I know how to put it. They suck. They’re too crowded and I cannot walk in the hallway for more than 30 seconds without stopping. Usually I have to stop in the second floor hallway of the old building because of the groups of people talking about something that cannot be that important that they must block everyone’s path to their next period class. However that’s not the only hallway with an issue, but it’s the main one.
So let me tell you some of the things I hate (and that’s a strong word ladies and gents) about the hallways and why.
One annoying habit committed in the hallways is when people must stop walking to talk to someone. Try to walk and talk at the same time. If the person you need to talk to is walking in the opposite direction, then walk with them and then turn around when you’re done. Don’t waste everyone else’s time. While many people could care less about when they get to class, it is still annoying when you stop in the middle of the hallway.
The next thing that grinds my gears is when I see people doing stupid complicated handshakes that involve more than two steps or body parts and you have to stop to do them. If you have one that involves more than two steps or body parts and you can keep walking, then it’s all cool.
In addition, one of the most annoying habits carried out in the hallways is when people crowd up in large groups and then when you ask them to move they get angry, like you just told them they were ugly or something. Get over yourselves and move.
Don’t turn the page folks, it gets better.
One complaint we’ve heard of is when you’re walking up the stairs on the right hand side and someone is walking down on the left hand side, which means you two meet and almost collide. So for all parties guilty of this hallway/staircase crime: Walk on the right hand side of the staircase.
This next one really upsets me. Walking…slowly… I’m not saying you have to walk like a nerd who wants to be the first one to class, but you don’t have to walk like you’re constipated or you’re being replayed in slow motion.
Now this next one doesn’t really bother me as long as it’s not in the middle of the hallway, but I was told by many people that they cannot stand it, and that’s making out in the hall. The reasons I was told why they cannot stand it are because it’s disgusting, the offending parties are in the way, and because it’s awkward to try and ask them to stop.
Almost done. The last thing that I hate is the constant yelling up and down the hallway. Here’s an announcement: That’s NOT cool. If I wanted to hear constant yelling and screaming I’d watch Jerry Springer.
Now what kind of person would I be to complain so much and not offer a solution? The administration and teachers on hallway patrol should encourage students to walk on the right side of the hallway and keep moving. A not so complex problem with an oh-so-simple solution.
