The guidance office will not only change your schedule, but they can also help you with every problem you seem to come across. What services do they provide, you say? Well, since you asked, they help you rummage through the numerous colleges and sort out which ones you actually would consider going to, and liking it. Guidance also coordinates the AP exams as well as helps you register for your SAT’s. They provide Career Fair’s, peer coaching, 504 Plan’s, and enroll students in parallel enrollment.
All of these services can be accessed with the click of a button via e-mail or a short appointment made with your counselor. Parents and teachers may also recommend students for a variety of reasons or concerns. Even though you yourself may not have known our guidance department provides all of these programs, they are coincidentally some what popular.
“Everyday about one to two people have an appointment.” says Mrs. Wienecke.
Ms. Voegl is our college counselor, and without her many of us would be left in the dust with everything we have to do. Visiting her is always welcomed in any grade, for it’s never too early to start the college hunt.
As well as helping you sort out your life, guidance also provides a more serious service counseling including PAT (Pupil Assistance Team). PAT is the support group funded by the Safe and Drug Free Schools program. Topics revolve around drug and alcohol abuse or misuse. To participate in PAT, one is usually referred or recommended by a teacher, parent, administrator, counselor, and sometimes even friends or fellow students. PAT is made up of teachers and counselors who are dedicated to helping students in need. All participation will remain confidential, giving a safe and trusted environment.
To help educate the school population on everything they guidance does, listen to the announcements, for they will occasionally feature activities they are involved in or running, especially in the beginning of the year. But “word of mouth” seems to be the way to go with getting the information out in the open.
