Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that there are so many people who drive and have cars this year? I mean I thought last year was pretty bad, but this year is ridiculous with all the student drivers. Now I have to leave my house earlier than usual because of the lack of available parking spaces. There was a time when I used to be able to leave my house around 7:30am and get a reasonable spot, but I’ve been leaving at 7:15am to find any space at all.
The parking on Bloomsbury Avenue, Rolling Road, and the residential side streets, along with the senior and junior lots, is outrageously crowded and you’re lucky to be on time to school with the oh-so-much parking offered to students.
Also, with renovations on the horizon, where are the seniors going to park without the senior parking lot? There will be so many seniors searching for a space more than ever this year. I feel that getting your learner’s permit, then your license, and then hopefully getting a car has been the trend with teens lately. The reason why is because I myself have a younger brother and I’m always getting on him about getting his learner’s permit on time or making sure that he does everything that he needs to do in order to receive his license when he can. So in this case I’m thinking if I’m doing this, maybe other students my age who may already have their license are also influencing their younger siblings to get started ASAP. If this situation may possibly be occurring, then there is also the chance that student’s with older friends, who already drive, are persuading the younger ones about all the privileges about driving and having more independence. All of the circumstances that might have some input on the increase of teen drivers are just making it more and more difficult to have a space to park in the mornings. I hope that car pooling and giving people rides becomes more popular between everyone because it would probably help with the insufficient parking lots for teen drivers. There have been instances where I am either speed walking or running to get to class on time after trying to find somewhere to park. I’m sorry if I don’t want to ride an overcrowded bus in the mornings or afternoons everyday of the year just so I can be on time to school.
Although people might tell me that is a personal decision to drive my car to school and I have to make sacrifices like going to bed earlier to get up earlier so I can get to school time, it just sounds kind of crazy to me. In order to keep this type of schedule with work and AP classes that I have this year is nearly impossible. This is why I choose to drive so I can get a little sleep at night, if any. Plus, I’m pretty sure that when someone has their license and a car that they are able to drive, they’re going to want to drive.
