Videogame fanatics rejoice this fall with the release of several highly anticipated titles. The two front-runners are Halo 3: ODST and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The fourth installment of the first-person shooter Halo series, ODST takes place between Halo 2 and Halo 3. ODST deviates from the first three games in that the player assumes the role of a standard issue UNSC soldier, specifically an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, rather than playing as the nearly indestructible Master Chief.
The setting of ODST appears to be more stationary than in previous Halo games. Instead of jumping from planet to planet, the focus of the campaign takes place in a Covenant-infested city.
Like most sequels, ODST offers new features including a new game-mode called Firefight, which is a survival type game play similar to Nazi Zombies in Call of Duty or Horde in Gears of War.
“It’s going to be different than the other Halo games, but I’m really excited for it”, stated senior Wesley Boone.
The Halo series long rival Call of Duty also plans to release a highly anticipated sequel--only it does not hit stores until mid-November.
MW2’s campaign picks up where Call of Duty 4 left off. The player takes the role of a member of an elite terrorist-hunting force determined to prevent the forces of evil from procuring nuclear weapons.
“If the new Call of Duty is anything like the fourth one, I’m getting it”, said freshman and videogame enthusiast Luke Chetelat.
Whatever your preference is between the two titles, you are unlikely to be disappointed.
