Notice anything new at CHS? Well, if you have you might have noticed a new entrance and lobby.
“The school looked completely different and looked so more... developed,” said sophomore Molly Ertel. The tall glass sides and long entrance to the lobby have a new modern feel.
Principal Deb Bittner explained the reasons for the new design for the front of the main building.
“The point was to make the lobby bigger and expand. We couldn’t make it taller because of the classrooms and wanted to make a good design feature with the different heights. Plus, it gives more cover for people to stand under when it rains or even snows,” she described.
The lobby has many bright sides to it, like more standing area and more covered area.“It’s so much bigger and different, but so much more room to stand,” junior Jacob Marshall commented.
There are some issues, however, that have been noticed by multiple students. One main issue is the enormous crowd of people that wait on the ground floor in the morning, which creates a traffic jam. Then students feel like they are racing through the halls to get to their classes.
While this not a direct result of the new construction, it does relate to the new policies that came with the school’s new layout.
“Some people don’t care about getting to class on time, so they loiter and that gets on my nerves. They make me almost late for my class. Also the students try to funnel themselves into one hallway, and it holds back traffic so much,” Ertel said.
Mrs. Bittner seemed very pleased with the new improvements even though she couldn’t get everything she wanted.
“I was very limited with the amount and what I could do with the money,” she said.
Mrs. Bittner also noted there are many improvements that no one can really notice. For example, there is new piping, wiring, and new floors in the cafeteria. These improvements were necessary, but just not so obvious to students.
