Environmental destruction hasbecome a serious problem on Earth. Many animals are becoming extinct due tohumans’ overuse of resources. Global Warming is causing terrible storms acrossthe world, as well as devastating droughts and floods. Therefore, many citizensare starting to reduce their use of resources. There is only one Earth, and wemust preserve it.

Currently, recycling is the main way to save nature. Plastic and glass bottles, aluminumcans, and paper can all be recycled. In some communities, cardboard and aerosolcans can be recycled too.

Duke Universityhas made many actions to encourage students and instructors to save theirresources. There are recycling bins for plastic, glass, aluminum, and paper inthe dorms and buildings.

In the restrooms at Duke University, the toilets flush with different amounts of water depending on if you havesolid or liquid waste. The university encourages students to use hand sanitizerinstead of soap and water, since they both kill germs, but hand sanitizer saveswater.

Recycled notebooks and recycledpaper are popular, and can help save forests.

Many peopleare surprised at how small changes in your lifestyle can affect the environmentso much. For example, you can turn off the water when you brush your teeth, turn off the lights when you leave a room, and reuse old jars and containersinstead of throwing them away.

One personmay not be able to make a gargantuan difference, but if all people unite, thena significant difference can be made. If 10,000 people all turned down theirthermostats by 1 degree the whole winter, then it would save enough energy topower the entire state of Alaskafor 26 hours.
