At-a-glance

As soon as I entered that establishment called Mad Hatter’s Café and Bake Shop, located in Durham on West Main Street, I knew I would probably not return. But I gave it a try, ordering a deceptively good-looking cookie called the Chocolate Whopper. Although it looked good it was the exact opposite.

Other than the food, it was a fairly good experience.  The paintings added a creative flair to the restaurant.

The biggest pros were the atmosphere and the design. The atmosphere was uplifting and serene. The lack of loud music or other distractions was an added bonus. The paintings and color scheme were interesting and enlivening. The major con was the desserts. The worthless excuse for a treat that I tried was dry and hard, therefore ruining the café-type feel.

However, to be fair, my curiosity to try new things did not extend to Mad Hatter’s entrees, which I heard from fellow diners to be very tasty. All in all, this café and bake shop needs some work where snacks are concerned.
