As reported in the Associated Press, a NATO aircraft fired at its allied Afghan soldiers without warning on Wednesday, killing five and injuring two of the men. The AP notes Afghan soldiers were trying to ambush insurgents traveling through the Ghazni province when the aircraft mistakenly fired. Unfortunately, this is not the first incident with “friendly fire” in Afghanistan, and will hinder NATO’s attempt of bettering communication with Afghan soldiers, a key part of the counterinsurgency strategy.
