McNair High
School is proud of its outstanding English and Avid teacher Miss
Lawson, who was chosen as a San Joaquin A+ "A+ Teacher" for 2009. This
is San Joaquin's eleventh annual event, and this year they are honoring
sixteen individuals throughout San Joaquin Country for their "A+
Teacher Award". This award is presented to teachers because of their
exceptional commitment and the outstanding contributions they have made
to education.
According to Assistant Principal Mrs.LeStrange,
"I feel honored by having such a talented teacher at McNair. Miss
Lawson is an incredible teacher and she is great with students."
Ms. Mazzaferro, English teacher, said, "She [Miss Lawson] is a dedicated teacher who puts endless amounts of time and energy into her students."
Adults aren't the only ones who appreciate Miss Lawson's talents.
Junior
Vanessa Duncan said, "Miss Lawson is the type of teacher that could
inspire any student to do well... she is also very easy to build a good
friendship relationship with and she is friendly, understanding and
down to earth.
Miss Lawson was really surprised at the news of this accomplishment she achieved.
"Oh
my gosh! I was totally surprised. It completely threw me off, I have
always tried to keep a low profile, it made me feel nice and great,"
she said. "I feel really good- [I] feel like all my hard work payed off."
Staying
late, Saturday sessions with her AP students, and always doing
something related to education and thinking of ways to help her
students in anyway she can are things that make Miss Lawson a great
educator.
She says," I practice a lot of cooperative learning,
[and have] a lot of discussion in class. I make my class environment
student-centered, very friendly and a comfortable place for my
students."
AP English student, junior Bryle Tayag, said, "she is
able to relate with all of the students because she is young and
understands a lot of our potential."
Lawson's dedication to teaching is evident in her final thought: "It's my passion- basically it's a lifestyle to me."
