What would high school be without the opposite sex? Pointless, right? Well, nowadays it’s all too common to ask, “Will you go out with me” to mean, “Will you be my boyfriend/girlfriend?” But if that really means going out on a date, here are some pointers for everyone to live by.

To the ladies!

Girls, no matter what anybody tells you, you’re all beautiful. You don’t have to prove that to any guy to make yourself feel special. So, when out on a date, the key is to be yourself.

Now, when it’s a special occasion it’s easy for girls to overdue the makeup. But, is it really all that necessary?

When on a date, you don’t have to try and outdo Mimi from Drew Carey. Having a natural look can interest a guy even more than pounds of makeup.

So now you’re on the date. It’s going well, but it’s nothing special. How do you spice it up a little bit?

“You could suggest doing something totally random and crazy and see if the other person goes along,” said sophomore Ashley Hebda. “When both people are really comfortable around each other you will usually have more fun.”

Exactly! Guys like it when a girl can take control. Show the guy that you’re not just going to be a tag along. Come up with something creative to show that you really like him or you want to get to know him better. The best way to form a better relationship with someone is by taking chances and doing something spontaneous.

Now, what if the date is going horribly?

“If it was getting really boring, I’d probably make up some story,” sophomore Nicole Gulotta said. “If I didn’t like him and I didn’t plan on ever seeing him again then I wouldn’t care. I’d have fun with it.”

As much fun as that sounds, ladies, guys do not want to be lead on. If a date’s going badly say something! Sometimes the guy may have no clue and may be thinking “Wow I’m having a pretty good time,” thus thinking the girl is having a good time too. Girls, don’t waste your time, or his, by sitting through this disaster. End it before it gets too far.

To kiss or not to kiss, that is the question.

Kissing on a first date isn’t always necessary. A lot of people, especially girls, have high standards for themselves that they’d like to keep. Not every guy is out to just to take advantage of a girl. To have fun on a date, you don’t have to give up your morals.

“I’m not into the casual kissing thing. I have to know there’s some kind of chemistry there,” said junior Ashley Cashen.

Ladies, the important thing to remember is to always be yourself. Never feel like you have something to prove on a date. Stand your ground and do what feels right and that will be the key to what may end up being a great relationship.
