Slightly outside the square in Crown Point, crammed between a soon-to-be salon and a family diner, lies a café with delights for people of all walks of life.

Co-owned by Nick Tournis and Pete Kazanas, Pop Culture Coffee House is a location where those interested in academics, sports, and arts/entertainment can come to enjoy good company, quality gourmet beverages, sandwiches, and fine desserts.

A fun, yet relaxed, atmosphere provides both morning and late-night coffee drinkers an enjoyable stay with decent prices.

“You meet a lot of different people at Pop Culture,” senior Jade Mendoza said. “No matter what you like to do, you’ll feel comfortable there.”

Hosting anything from poetry readings to concerts, Pop Culture provides opportunities for striving artists.

“We only have two shows a month for now because we just recently opened,” Kazanas said.  “We hope to end up having at least one show each week.”

Four Pentium 4 Dell computers are available for customer use, not to mention four DSL ports for laptops towards the back of the coffee house.

“We also have Wi-Fi: a wireless DSL system,” Tournis said.  “A customer can just come in with a laptop that has a wireless card and check their e-mail or surf the Internet while enjoying a coffee or tea.”

From pleasing pies to distinguished drinks, this retreat from casual suburban commotion has it all, including an upcoming music festival in late May.

Currently in the process, the café is looking for local bands to perform in an all day festival occuring on Sunday, May 30.
