According to Dictionary.com, talent is a special natural ability or aptitude, of which Ridge definitely has a lot of. On January 13th at promptly 6 p.m., the auditorium doors opened for the 4th annual school talent show featuring acts of singing, dancing, acting and even a few live bands. They stepped it up this year with using a “Dancing with the Stars” kind of feel, having 3 judges sitting in the audience giving their opinions and ratings in between the 19 acts.
“I thought the talent show this year had a really good turnout. There was a lot of work that went into it, and there was a variety of acts that made it interesting,” said senior Jessica Reyes who’s group Dance Tech Live won the “viewer’s choice award” with their dance to Britney Spears’ “Circus”. “I participated last year, but I thought this year was much better. We had better microphones, I wrote my own piece and the crowd seemed to be better,” said rapper Troy Johnson
Though, not everything went completely smoothly. “The practice was completely hectic. I remember we even practiced at the gas station, and the park,” said Reyes. “I had to free style my whole rap. I got on stage and forgot everything I had wrote down and practiced,” added Johnson.
“This was my first year participating, that’s why I was surprised when I won first place. The talent show was just a great and fun opportunity to make a point and getting first place was a bonus.” said talent show winner Brandi Neal who preformed a piece on biracial equality (which contrary to popular belief, she did not write). The night ended with a tie between Brandi Neal and Aleyah Khan. After getting second opinions from the crowd, Neal came out on top, leaving Suave’ Boyz in close second, and finally Khan to take home the bronze.
