With the end of GHS Spirit Week always comes the Pep-Rally, an event complete with loud music, cheering students, and various routines put together by the sports teams. The Pep-Rally is always an event to enjoy.

This season, the Pep-Rally seemed even more festive and fun than usual. With the Student Senate pushing for an extra long Pep-Rally this year, it was extended by 20 minutes, giving us double the time we usually have. This time, not only were fall sports teams acknowledged, but some club advisors and team captains were also included in the events. After all athletic teams were announced, a series of hula-hoop and three legged races occured, finished by a pie in the face for all losers of the competitions.

Each fall sports team was called and team members' names read off. Usually every team chooses a song that it wants to have played when introduced. A few teams, however, chose to break out and make their routines original. Some of those teams were Varsity Tennis, Varsity Volleyball, Varsity Girls Soccer, and the Cheerleading squads.

Volleyball came out in a show of tossing volleyballs and ended the routine with a mixture of tumbles and claps in the center of the gym floor. Varsity Girls Soccer had its team captains lead the walk out to the gym. The rest of the team members, who were scattered throughout the gym, joined them after standing up in pairs in the audience.

The Varsity and JV Cheerleading squads came out in football uniforms and preceded to entertain the crowd with their own dance routine to a remix of songs; however, the team that caused the most talk around the school was the Varsity Tennis team.

The Varsity Tennis team entered the gym from the two separate entrance doors and met in the middle of the gym. Returning in lines to the front of the gym, they spelled out the phrase “ G TENNIS ROCKS !!” with each member having a different letter.

“Varsity Tennis definitely had the most interesting reaction out of all the routines,” stated by Tonye Van Dunk, a spectator at the pep-rally.

The Pep-Rally ended with the announcement of the winners of the hallway decoration competition where the senior class came out on top. Also, the individual nominees for homecoming court from each grade were called out and brought down to the center of the gym.

This season’s Pep-Rally was not only fun and festive, it was a great introduction to fall sports and the school year as a whole.
