If you watch MTV, you’ve probably seen commercials for “Think.”

Recently on MTV, there have been commercials in which characters are dealing with very realistic issues that affect many teens. “Think” by MTV seeks to educate teens and help them take action.

“Think” plans to cover five major areas. They include discrimination, education, environment, sexual health, and global issues.

The discrimination portion hopes to educate teens about homophobia, sexism, racism, and other forms of negative discrimination. Their goal is to empower young people to speak out and take a stand against discrimination.

The education section has set goals to inspire and motivate teens to prepare for graduating high school and being successful in college. They are putting out the reality that a majority of young people either do not graduate high school prepared for college or do not graduate high school at all.

MTV hopes to educate young people about the environment and the responsibility and impact all teens can have on it. They want to empower the country’s youth to make a positive change and protect environmental resources.

Sexual health, though a touchy subject, is a very real part of most young people’s lives. MTV has always made a commitment to educate teens about abstinence, AIDS and HIV, and sexually transmitted diseases. The number 1-800-BE-SAFE-1 is often advertised and is a free and helpful resource for many teens dealing with sexual issues.

The global issue portion plans to educate teens on issues that take place beyond our country’s borders, such as the ever growing fight to end AIDS in the world’s poorest nations.

MTV wants to educate you on all different issues and get teens involved. I encourage you to go and visit www.mtv.com/thinkmtv/.
