What if you were talking to the next Tiger Woods and you didn’t even know it?

This could be the case for many of us here at Dunbar. The Golf Team is extremely successful, but no one seems to know it.

Recently, I found myself chatting with a classmate whom I’d never met, and he revealed to me that he was on the golf team.

“Golf!” I exclaimed. “I don’t really know anyone on the golf team and I defnitely don’t know how you guys do as a team.”

He laughed and told me that no one does.

Senior Zack Butler has been on the Dunbar Golf Team since he was a freshman.

He said that the golf team wakes up extra early every day to practice before school with their coach, Mr. Brad Bachand.

They compete mainly in tournaments throughout the state, and just like most of the sports teams at Dunbar, their main rivals are the local private schools.

Senior Charlie Schaeffer said that the biggest rivals are Henry Clay and Lexington Christian Academy.

Zack also said that he likes being on the golf team at Dunbar because it’s small enough to make close connections.

“We’re all friends on the team,” he said.

Because it’s so small, though, it can be competitive. In golf, only the top five players get to compete.

Zack is currently ranked at number one.

The other four of the top five players are seniors Tanner Mobley, Charlie Schaffer, Will Bishop, and Ben Combs.

So, maybe Zack is the next Tiger Woods--and he’s from OUR school. Go to a golf tournament to check him out.

“We need fans,” Zack said.

“Please come watch us.”

The team is playing in the state tournament on Oct. 9 and 10 at the Bowling Green Country Club. Admission to the event is free.
