Dunbar is losing amazing educatiors after this school year comes to an end. Becky and Fred Barnott, Barrie Hart, Karen Hughes, Joy Sutherland, and Wayne Roberts will be retiring.
Becky Barnott teaches Special Education, and plans to retire with her husband after this school year. She has been at Dunbar for 11 of the 27 years she has been teaching. Mrs. Barnott said, “I think it’s time to do something different, I’ll probably work part time.”
Fred Barnott, who teaches Engineering and Architecture in room 303, wants to have more free time while still earning money. Mr. Barnott has been teaching for 30 years, and has been at Dunbar since it opened. To put it simply, he said, “it’s time.”
Barrie Hart teaches anatomy and Biology, and said, “it’s time to do some other things.” Ms. Hart has been teaching for 31 years, 10 of them at Dunbar. She enjoys arts and crafts, and wants more time to create stained glass. Some of her other hobbies that she plans to take pleasure in are: traveling, reading, and most importantly, she said, “playing.”
Karen Hughes teaches Biology, and has been at Dunbar for 18 years. She has decided to retire after 33 years of teaching, and plans to work part-time. Ms. Hughes said, “I will spend more time with my children,” and she says she will enjoy having more free-time.
Joy Sutherland has been teaching for 29 years, and she has been at Dunbar since the first day it opened. Sutherland enjoys teaching U.S. History and Criminal Justice, but she said, “I just want to spend more time with my family.” The teacher located in the room next door to her, Mr. Roberts, is also stepping down after this year.
Wayne Roberts teaches Advanced World Civilizations and plans to make this his last year of teaching. Mr. Roberts has been teaching for 25 years, and has been since it opened in 1990. Mr. Roberts said, “I just feel like it’s time to do something else,” and he currently has no plans after retiring.
