By Alex Riggs
Hey Dunbar this is Alex Riggs with the last car profile of the year and my last car profile ever. Despite how sentimental and nostalgic that intro is, do not worry, Dunbar, I still have one last car profile for you that is definitely worth reading…
Brand: Toyota
Type of Car: 1994 Four Runner
Nickname: Apollo
Owner of Car: Alex Riggs
Exterior color: Red
Interior: Tan, tattered leather
Interior floor mats: The Looney Tunes Tasmanian devil
Top Speed: Technically 110 mi/h, but I’ve only ever hit 85.
Total mileage: 166723 miles
Gas mileage: Maybe 14 miles/gallon
Wrecks: 2 (Neither of which were my fault)
Why it made the profile list: It is my car…duh.
The History of my car: I got Apollo during my sophomore year at the Toyota used car dealership on Nicholasville Road. Since then I have been in two wrecks (I got rear-ended by two chicks who go to Dunbar…thank you Allie and Caitlin), had my starter fixed twice, lost my gas cap, had my radio broken, got my turning, fluid replaced three times…no wait four times, and been towed by AAA twice.
Why this profile is worth reading: Even though my car seems 100 percent worthless, I could not ever give it up; and in a way, it reflects the high school experience. We went through rough times. Up and downs, ins and outs--the good and the bad. Granted my car might have gone through a few rough patches, it was also there for all the good times. When we went driving down Man O’ War after the ice storm, when Timaji shot off the firework in the trunk, when we drove in 95 degree heat with Beatrice (my cat) in the trunk, and when we serenaded random girls out of the sun roof playing techno songs. The car reflects the adventure that has been high school; this care free episode of life only comes once and all the good and the bad times are just part of the ride, literally. So whether you cannot wait for college or wish you had one more year as a bulldog, high school only came once, and I would not have wanted it any other way.
