"The freshmen are great. We have one new sophomore and two freshmen running on varsity," said junior Andrea Merchak.
Prior to the race, many of the runners expressed confidence in their chances at the Fayette County Championship. All the extra effort seemed to be paying off.
"We have only won one race this year, which is different from past years. It will be a close race between us and Lafayette [but] I expect to win," said senior Samir Shah.
As it turns out, he was right on target. The meet, which took place on October 14 at Masterson Station Park, was a success for both the boys and girls. Both junior Megan Klein and senior Rob Wahl won their respective races. Freshman Olivia Thompson, who recently recovered from a knee injury, dropped three minutes from her personal record. Both teams took first place at city and will soon be competing at the regional and state levels.
"We really came together and showed how dominant we are in the city," said Lackey. "Hopefully we’re getting to where we need to be so we can rock out at state."
"The future looks excellent for the team," said Wahl.
The Bulldogs hope to see their times improve after dropping their mileage in preparation for the championships. They also hope to see some support from their peers at their most important race of the year.
"The atmosphere at state indescribable," said Klein. Come show your support at the Horse Park on November 14!
