Fans raved as Michael Jackson announced his THIS IS IT tour on March 5 in London’s O2 Arena complex. Tickets flew from box offices; everyone wanted to see the King of Pop in what he had called "the final curtain call."
After Jackson’s death on June 25, bits and pieces of his rehearsals from his last few months began to emerge. AEG Live released more than one hundred hours of video capturing Jackson’s last three months of rehearsal.
Kenny Ortega, choreographer for the tour and a good friend of Jackson, worked with Sony and AEG Live to edit the 100 hours of video down to a two hour movie documentary. Named after Jackson’s final tour, THIS IS IT, Ortega calls it, "a gift to Michael’s fans."
The movie gives fans the chance to give their last respects to the King of Pop and celebrate his life.
It will showcase a rare glimpse into the last few months of Jackson’s life that were spent in preparation for his final tour.
The movie also take audience members through some of his greatest performances begining with the most popular, "Thriller."
Some of the performances featured will be presented in digital 3-D, giving audience members a taste of what it would have been like seeing Michael Jackson live.
The movie will also show the hard work and determination put into making Michael Jackson’s last tour something spectacular. THIS IS IT hits movie theaters on October 28th, but only for a limited time of two weeks.
Due to the anticipated high demand of the movie, sneak previews will be shown in 15 select cities on October 27. "Hopefully, THIS IS IT can show a side of Michael that the media did not, until after his death," said senior Richie Stephan.
Tickets to THIS IS IT went on sale September 27th to give fans an ample amount of time to purchase their tickets.
