The swim team has been wrapping up what appears to be a successful season under head coach, Mrs. Stephanie Kehler, and assistant coach, Ms. Alex Osborne.

Kehler is enjoying this season and has high hopes. “Dunbar is going to have a strong presence at the regional and state meets this year.”

With senior co-captains Cole Pleasants and Richie Stephan leading the 31 boys, and senior co-captains Carmen Pleasants, Kristen Wilson, and Kathryn Hays leading the 28 girls, so far this season the team has had several wins. The girls came out on top on January 6 against Saint X, Sacred Heart, Sayre School, and Woodford County. The boys were close, losing by only two points. On January 13, the boys won while the girls lost against a “very competitive’ Model high school, according to Stephan. On January 16, both the boys’ and girls’ team defeated Lafayette and Lexington Christian Academy.

With several wins this season, it seems the team is on the way to another regional championship, co-captain Carmen Pleasants is looking forward to the upcoming matches.

"We have a really young team that hasn't competed a lot at this level before, but hopefully we'll win regionals like we have in the past," she said.

Both teams appear to be going strong and are ready for the upcoming championship meets.

"The boys’ team has really stepped up, they have been filling the shoes of last year’s seniors," said junior Colin Michael.

It's a similar story for the girls’ team. Co-captain Kristen Wilson was very optimistic about the upcoming meets. "I think we'll do really well. The season has been a lot of fun and we've done really well. I don't see how we could have done any better," she said.

The team competed in the city championship January 23 at Transylvania University, and will be competing in regional matches in Richmond at EKU on February 6-7, finally wrapping up the season with the state championships February 13-14 at the University of Louisville.

I think the swim team doesnt get any credit for what they do. They usually get in the top 4 at state every year and get nothing for it! i'm glad this article has some good information for them.

i have friends on the pld swim team, and i think that they deserve every bit of glory they get. swimming competitively is really tough. just look at michael phelps. they have to be top athletes, and deserve much more admiration than they get.

I love this article! It really shows what good writers we have here at Dunbar and they have complemented the swimmers very well.
