The Paul Laurence Dunbar Lady Bulldogs soccer team has endless goals this year, and not just in the nets of their opponents. Hopes are extremely high after last year’s 40% win record. The team’s head coach, Ms. Emily Coleman, is familiar with an excellent season, having coached the team for the past 12 years.
“We’re off to a good start,” she said. “We want to see more consistency and hard work when playing in our games.”

This year’s girl’s soccer team is composed mostly of underclassmen. Even so, the soccer team really has a chance of going the distance in this year’s District Tournament.
“We want to improve our team standings within the District so we can advance out of the District Tournament,” said Ms. Coleman. Since the school opened, the girl’s soccer team has never been championship victors, so winning this year would be a huge accomplishment. Part of the Dunbar Girl Soccer team’s success this season comes from the bonds they have formed as teammates.
“This year, the girl’s soccer team is the closest I’ve ever seen them,” said senior Kelly Hammack.

“We have a great group of girls and we all get along really well on and off the field.” Ms. Coleman says she is very proud of the girls, noting how they have grown into “respectable young women.”
There is also a specific mix of elements that Coach Coleman contributes to the program. “110% effort, Team communication, Game intensity,” said Ms. Coleman. This combination is working wonders for them this season.

The team is devoted to do well in the district tournament as well, and their record so far proves it. Though the girl’s soccer team has never won the district championship, they feel that there’s a first time for everything.

“We’ve been working really hard this season, and I think we may end up surprising a lot of teams and doing really well in the District Tournament,” said Hammack. The district tournament begins October 11, so come out and support the Lady Bulldogs soccer team!
