By Kristen Steininger
While most were sitting on a sunny beach working on their sun tan, I was sitting by a fire under the moonlight.
Now, you could say I am outdoorsy girl, but at some point I like to be back in civilization. Our trip started at 7:00 in the morning, which meant I was still half asleep. 18 of us piled into five different cars and head off to our destination, Itchetucknee. Three hours and a pan of brownies later we arrived. The town was just how I expected, a whole lot of nothing.
The campsite was spacious and reminded me from something out of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” After setting up, we grabbed our tubes and traveled to the nearest river, which had gorgeous trees coming out of the water and manatees. Two hours paddling down this river was fun, but worked up an appetite. Next, came the food, campfire, and of course ticks.
While this adventure was a nice change, it makes me remember why I never go camping. It is nice to get back in touch with yourself and the environment, every once in a while.
