Temple High Theatre students are getting ready for the opening of this year’s annual musical, Into the Woods.
The production is written by Stephen Sondheim, based on the original book by James Lapine. It involves characters from all of the classic Brother’s Grimm fairy tales including Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and more, as well as some new characters. The story expands on their adventures as well as revealing what really is behind the concept of “Happily Ever After.”
The Broadway musical originally opened in November of 1987 at the Martin Beck Theatre and has won several Tony Awards.
Theatre students have been working on the production for months, with auditions taking place in early September and learning music since mid-November.
“It’s going really well and I am extremely excited about the show,” said senior Corrie Hermans who plays Little Red Riding Hood. “I love my character and this is by far my favorite show we have ever done.”
Due to construction on the Temple High School Auditorium, the show will be performed at the Cultural Activities Center on Thursday-Friday-Saturday, January 15-16-17 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, January 18 at 2 p.m.
Advanced tickets are $8 and can be purchased from any cast or crew member until January 14 or can be bought at the door for $10.
