The Wildcat football season got off to a good start with a scrimmage Thursday night, August 27, against the Pflugerville-Connally Cougars.
The Wildcats gave just a hint of what their players will bring to the field this year. The Wildcats seem to have improved on both sides of the game. Defense is looking unstoppable this year, while offense seems to look the same way.
Senior Stedman Moore, a 198-pound defensive back had five tackles and one sack. On offense, Senior Lache Seastrunk ran hard and seemed to be able to go wherever he wanted. The explosive Seastrunk is ranked as the number two college recruit in the country by The Sporting News.
With a stingy defense and an explosive offense, the Wildcats may have a dangerous combination. Coaches seem to feel very successful this year with the ‘Cats. The players say they’re excited, too.
“I’m ready and feeling fired up!” said Seastrunk, who ran 70 yards for one of his two touchdowns.
“We’re fixing to get loose!” said Moore, who, in addition to his fine defensive work, also scored on a five yard run while playing second-team offense.
Senior Derrick Davis had 5 tackles and one sack.
“I’m OK—just ready for the first game.”
Confidence is running high with the Wildcats this year. The school and community are eager to find out what the 2009 edition of the Wildcats varsity football team has to offer.
