Wouldn’t it be cool if super heroes were real? Well they are—just without the super powers and super cool outfits. Who are these alleged super heroes you wonder? They are known as “security guards”, serving to protect Kaiser High from mischief, mishaps, and turmoil. 
    If it weren’t for them, fights would never be broken, students would be ditching more frequently (losing their education), our campus would be trashy and covered in graffiti, and drugs and violence would be destroying our school. 
    Just last week, security guard Ryan Arthurton, caught a boy hiding out in the back of a car’s trunk trying to ditch. This is just one of hundreds of things the security guards do on a daily basis. Also last week, security was called to H104 to handle thievery. They searched everybody’s belongings for a missing Ipod touch. Laurie Etherly ( a.k.a. Ms. Laurie) allowed the culprit plenty of time to turn themselves in, but no one ever did. Though never found, it was with much effort that the security guards attempted to retrieve the missing Ipod. 
    They might not have caught the thief last week, but they do catch taggers regularly. Arthurton said that he usually catches “3-5 people a week” tagging, “usually the same ones… They think they’re slick,” Arthurton laughed, directing his comment towards one of the taggers sitting in ALC with him, “but they’re not slick… [It’s our job to] keep the campus safe and secure, and maintain a safe education environment.” 
    Did you know that Terry Macias has been a security guard for 18 years? “I worked at Fohi, then at Almeria, and I’ve worked here for five years,” she said. During her time here, Macias said that the worst thing she’s seen is students being rude and disrespectful to adults. “I haven’t seen anything really bad,” she admitted. 
    Most of the security guards agreed that Kaiser is a “really good school” and that hardly anything bad happens. They compared Kaiser to other high schools they’ve worked at and came to conclusion that Kaiser is typically one of the finer campus’. Their favorite part about being here at Kaiser is “working with kids”. 
    “We can encourage the kids to do better in school,” said Arthurton, who has been a security guard for two years now. 
    Though you may not have noticed, it is thanks to our security guards that Kaiser is the way it is. Because of them, we can walk around campus feeling safe. They will prevent as much violence, thievery, and graffiti as possible. If we ever need a lift or a gate opened, they are there to help us out. So the next time you lose an IPod or start a fight, or think about ditching or tagging, remember who’s going to be there: Kaiser’s finest, the super heroes in the yellow shirts: Ryan Arthurton, Laurie Etherly, Jose Flores, Terry Macias, Jarel Perry, and Jason Perry. Kudos to the security guards for everything they do for Kaiser!
