The Woodland Wolves varsity basketball team faces a must-win game tonight versus the Inderkum Tigers, in the final round of the Tri-County Conference tournament. The Wolves (14-11, 5-6 TCC) were headed for a clear playoff berth with a 13-8 record heading into the second round of league play. However, the Wolves have struggled down the stretch, losing twice to Natomas and once to Inderkum, and now their playoff chances depend on tonight's game.
In a very complicated playoff system, the solution is quite simple for the Wolves: win. If Woodland wins then they will lock a spot in the playoffs, most likely against Foothill of Sacramento. If the Wolves lose, then they still have a chance to make it to the playoffs, but their fate will be left in another team's hands.
After the power rankings came out on Tuesday, the Wolves were ranked 13th in a field of 16 and were gearing up to play number four, Whitney. But after the Wolves 66-59 loss to Natomas, both El Camino and Saint Mary's surpassed Woodland, leaving them in a tough predicament.
Woodland has the highest probability of playing Foothill, the team that the Wolves lost to in the first round of playoffs last-year, 62-49.
"We just have to win tonight," said senior Daniel Brian. "It's really that simple."
