For the Woodland boys' basketball team, Wednesday night's game against Natomas was proof that the third time isn't always the charm. After going to Natomas to play their first Tri-County Conference tournament game, the Wolves came out with a 66-59 loss.
Although the Pack had three players in double figures, it wasn't enough. Senior center Adam Eakles had a quiet 12 points, with junior forward Travis Geerts matching Eakles' twelve points.
"We should have won this game," said senior forward Daniel Brian. "We're the better team. I don't know why we lost to them all three times. We always shoot ourselves in the foot and we can never close games."
Natomas guard Terrance Harris led all scorers with 25 points.
"We couldn't lock down Harris," said senior guard Joe Felix. "That's why we lost. Our defense really needs to improve."
"We had a rough game and every team has them," said Coach Bob Brian. "But it's too late in the season for this to be happening. We just have to pick up the pieces and look forward to Friday's game [against Inderkum]."
The Wolves are set to play Friday night at home against rough and rugged Inderkum. In previous games against Inderkum, Woodland has come out with a split series: a game a piece.
"This is our last home game," said senior guard Kipp Birtwistle. "So we have to make some noise."
