Woodland catcher Cameron Goodwin tries to turn a double play after getting a force out at home.
Although the season is now over for our Lady Wolves softball team, they had many great moments.
They finished the season 15-11 and 8-2 in league play. They started off the season fairly slow and lost a couple of early games but they turned it up halfway through the season and went on a streak, destroying teams with great pitching and excellent defense.
"We had a great season and I am very proud of how tough we played," said senior first baseman Kimmi Gustafson. "It sucks that we didn't repeat as section champs but it was still a successful season."
In their playoff game on May 15, they played a tough Benicia team and lost in ten innings, 5-2. The game was tight the whole way and neither team gave up. Unfortunately, the Wolves came up short and ended their season there.
"I was sad that we lost but everybody loses one time or another," said senior second baseman Holly Bourke. "We still had a blast out there."
For some of the seniors on the team, they will continue to keep playing softball at the collegiate level. Woodland's star pitcher senior Tanya Holguin will play at San Diego State next year on a full ride scholarship and Holly Bourke will play at Boise State.
"I'm sad that it's over but now I just have to get ready for the next level," said Holguin. "The competition will be better so I know I have to step my game up."
The Lady Wolves had a great season and met all expectations.
