The Antoine Dodson brand has sky-rocketed to global infamy. Performing live on the BET Hip-Hop Awards, Dodson has a chart-climbing song on iTunes, an Antoine Dodson Halloween costume, an endorsement deal for an iPhone app, a t-shirt line and Face Book fan page. Antoine, or anyone else for that matter, could not have anticipated all the attention he received after his fierce interview to a local Alabama TV station in July 2010. He took the world by storm with all of this success.

Antoine Dodson is a Huntsville, Alabama resident who was interviewed by NBC affiliate WAFF-48 News in a news clip about the local police searching for a man who broke into the Dodson’s home and tried to assault his sister in bed. According to the news story, earlier that morning, Kelly Dodson, Antoine Dodson’s sister, woke up to an intruder in her bed.  Antoine Dodson rushed to her room after hearing his sister scream. After a brief struggle, the intruder escaped through a window. Antoine said the suspect left behind his shirt and fingerprints.

After the success of his wildly popular “Hide Yo’ Kids, Hide Yo’ Wife” song, Dodson says he’s working on a book, a dictionary of original phases, and a full album. Dodson says he makes it a point to talk about his support of sexual assault survivors during interviews. The rising star is also lending his support to a sex-offender registry phone app, which will donate 5 percent of its proceeds to the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN).

Critics think he is just in it for the fame and in recent interviews he responds, “If I stay in the limelight, I'll really be able to get my story out. Performing at the Hip Hop Awards was so that I could stay hot, and if I stay hot and fresh than people will get the message."

Also in a public service announcement to the media, he said, “I know the media [is] just doing their jobs, but I am sick and tired of the media making this [into], oh, 'we’re so poor, we’re stupid and slow, none of us have degrees or education. No.'”

Dodson was working towards an associate’s degree in management and business. Dodson says that his education comes in handy for the many offers he receives, but that his main focus is supporting survivors of sexual abuse.

Dodson is hoping for men to be more vocal about their experiences with sexual abuse and he's trying to be strategic about his message of supporting sexual assault victims.

He said that “I would love for men to talk about it even more. Do you know how manly that makes you look when you can sit up there, and talk about being a rape victim to other people? That would give other people the confidence to speak out.”

Dodson's sister's alledged perpetrator has not been caught.
