EarthGuard meets the second Thursday of every month in Mrs. Wardrip’s room. The goal of EarthGuard is to educate students and the public about conserving the environment, recycling, and animal rights. EarthGuard was a part of the annual Club Fest at Oak Grove High and had many student pledges.

"I am very proud of the turnout of members," Mrs. Wardrip, club sponsor, said. "We are a new club, and we have many dedicated members."

EarthGuard is planning a "Green Week" in March. This week will include spirit days for Class of the Year competition and an educational assembly. The money raised by students during Green Week will contribute to buying trees for campus and recycled goods such as paper towels and printing paper for the school. EarthGuard is organizing the recycling programs within OGHS by supplying every room with a recycling bin for paper and plastic bottles and containers.

During second semester, EarthGuard will be focusing on animal rights. The members will be volunteering at local animal shelters and clinics.

"Animals do not have a voice of their own. We are going to be that voice," said Wardrip. EarthGuard has trickled down to the middle school, with a club much like EarthGuard forming there.

There are 28 current members in EarthGuard including freshmen Jordan Althaus, Aubree Baldwin, Lauren Bunyar, Elizabeth Casper, Autumn Cochran, Ariel Cole, Robin Due, Cheyenne Evenson, Jenna Fear, Derrick Feeler, Eleesha Finnel, Kristen Goessling, Amanda Green, Brianna Herr, Tara Inman, John McGlynn, Amber Nieznajcho, Haley Polson, Sarah Roitz, and Katie Spear, sophomores Skyler Bell, Kayla Curtis, and Shayna Miller, and junior Samantha McBrayer. Club officers are senior Grace Brodrick, junior Kim Harler, and sophomores Drew Kuenzli and Sami-Jo Whitehead. Mrs. Wardrip and Ms. Durham are club sponsors. All EarthGuard members are also members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
